About Dan

Dan Rajter is an editorial & travel photographer based on an island in Downeast Maine & Boston. His passion for photography was reignited by a year-long backpacking trip with his late wife, Elissa, which culminated in a photography blog that gathered around 15,000 followers worldwide. Dan's body of work is rooted in his unique version of photojournalism. His images capture the essence of both the natural world & its human counterparts, often entangled within each other. His deftness at capturing a scene without his presence influencing it is realized within the confines of the frame, allowing for the natural flow of the present moment to proceed almost as if there was never a camera present and a photo wasn't taken at all. His resulting images have a soulful essence, an innocent candid quality that holds onto the moment in perpetuity.

His portfolio encompasses a broad body of work that is comprised of travel, music, portraiture, architecture, lifestyle, & the vastness of the natural world. Whether the assignment is location-based or within his own backyard, Dan's work delivers images that have depth & meaning for his audience & his clients. Select clients & publications include Downeast Magazine, Maine Homes Magazine, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Elliot & Elliot Architecture, Maine Arts Commission, Threadbare Theatre Workshops, Wabanaki Reach, Opera House Arts, Healthy Island Project, The Boston Globe, Bangor Daily News, & MOFGA.
